• To be an oasis of peace in the heart of Paceville for all visitors of all creeds and religions; |
The Augustinian Church in Paceville dedicated to Our Lady of Good Counsel was given a new life after months of extensive work inside and outside the church. While the structure remained the same, the interior was changed to better serve the needs of this pastoral zone and to help the community feel closer to God. The designer, Amadeo Galea, under the supervision of Fr. Ray Francalanza OSA, prior of the same community, was responsible for this task, combining the modern and traditional styles.
As one can notice, a special emphasis was placed on the aesthetical beauty using vivid colours – symbolising hope and the covenant of God with man, the centrality of the crucified Christ, as well as the oval altar, which is the only one of its type in Malta. Artist Daniel Scerri was also involved in the project, by painting the picture of Our Lady of Good Counsel and the Via Sagra.
At the end of this renovation, the project was inaugurated on Friday 14th November 2008 by means of prayers, led by Provincial Fr. Lucjan Borg OSA. The blessing of the church and a mass for youths at 9.30pm took place on the following day, Saturday, while on Sunday 16th November, Mons. Archbishop Paul Cremona OP consecrated the altar during the 9am mass.
